According to the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United goalkeeper Onana suffered a hamstring injury during training this week and may need to rest for six to eight weeks. This means he will miss the upcoming U.S. Tour and may not be able to catch up with the Premier League season's opening.

Manchester United will face Arsenal at home on August 17. While Manchester United plans to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, Onana thought he would be coach Amorin's first choice goalkeeper this season when she returned to Carrington training base earlier this week. Previously, Onana had attracted interest from Monaco, but he himself wanted to stay at Old Trafford unless the club decided to sell him.

Amorin hopes to introduce a goalkeeper who can compete with Onana's main position. Despite repeated mistakes last season, Onana still starts frequently due to doubts about the ability of No. 2 goalkeeper Baindel. United renewed their contract with veteran Tom Heaton for one year last month, meaning Heaton is likely to continue as the third goalkeeper. Therefore, Manchester United may seek to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Baindel in the future.

However, Onana's injury means Baindel may need to continue as a substitute for some time. On the other hand, Manchester United could use Onana’s injury as a reason to find a new second goalkeeper as soon as possible so that new players can adapt to the team before the season starts and possibly allow him to start at the beginning of the season.

Manchester United currently prioritizes signings of offensive players, especially Mbemo of Brentford. But if Manchester United can quickly complete Mbemo's transfer, their next focus may be to sign a new goalkeeper. Manchester United had originally planned to sign a goalkeeper this summer to challenge Onana, so Onana's injury could make this goal even more urgent.

Manchester United is unlikely to hope to rely on Baindel at the start of the season, as it will affect the club's plan to sell him before the transfer window is closed. Instead, it is smarter to find a goalkeeper who is better than Baindel as planned and integrate him into the team in the preseason in order to compete with Onana in a healthy season.
