Manchester United CEO Berrada: The worst part is over, I firmly believe that I can win the Premier League by 2028
Manchester United CEO Berrada was interviewed by United We Stand, the first time Berrada has been interviewed since taking over Manchester United in July last year. The magazine editor Andy Mitten streamlined the 70-minute conversation with Bellada and posted a summary at The Athletic.
Speaking about Manchester United's poor performance on and off the court this season, Berrada admitted that he could not expect such a bleak season in the Premier League, but insisted that things were about to start to improve.
Bellada said: "We have suffered all the short-term pain this season, and the worst part will be the past starting this summer. We will stabilize the management team; we will equip the coaching team with a sound technical support team to stabilize the coaching team.
" At the football level, there are already clear ideas about what we want to do, what players we want to bring in, how we want the team to play, how we will integrate youth training players, and how we invest in future talents.
"I sit here today and am actually very optimistic and quite positive about the future. Of course, we need to make many decisions right. We will definitely make mistakes, which is undoubtedly a matter of doubt. We will try to minimize mistakes. But our goal is to create a long-term system for the club that is extremely sustainable, right?"
One of the most eye-catching goals he has set since Berlada joined Manchester United is the "150 Project", referring to a series of milestone goals he hopes to achieve when the club celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2028.
These goals include both off-market, such as achieving "cash flow positive" and competitive levels. Berrada hopes that Manchester United women's football team will win its first women's Premier League championship in the next three years, and the men's football team will also win the Premier League.
But is this realistic?
Berrada replied: "Of course, I've been through worse situations. When I joined Barcelona in 2004, they were at a low point, and they were out of the quarterfinals of the Cup of del Rey, and they were not even qualified to participate in the Champions League in the season, and they could only participate in the League Cup. But two years later they became the double champions of La Liga and the Champions League. So things can change very quickly. Yes, I fully believe that we can achieve our goals here. The key is that we need time, clear plans and consistent decisions. It requires discipline, the right people and patience.
"We are ranked 15th, which seems like an impossible task. But why not aim at it? Why not try your best to fight for it?
"I firmly believe we can do it. We have two to three summer transfer windows to build a team that can start competing for Premier League championships, and if we can achieve our goals earlier, we will be happy. So no one said we will not start wanting to win the championship until 2028."
