Has your dog ever had black patches on its body? Maybe you haven’t paid special attention to it, but this is a situation that exists in many dogs. So, does this black patch have any impact on the dog’s health? What causes this to happen? Let's take a look.

1. Fungal infection

If your dog's skin is infected with fungus, black patches may appear, along with symptoms such as skin itching, redness, and dandruff. At this time, the owner needs to take the dog to the pet hospital immediately for diagnosis and develop an appropriate antifungal treatment plan based on the type of fungus.

2. Pigmentation

If the dog is older, it may also be age spots, because with age, varying degrees of pigmentation will appear on the dog's skin, resulting in dark spots. In addition, if the dog often basks in the sun or is exposed to some ultraviolet radiation, it may also cause local dark spots. This is a normal situation, the owner does not need to worry too much, just take a bath naturally.

3. Suffering from endocrine diseases

When dogs suffer from endocrine diseases, dark spots may also appear, such as hypothyroidism, which causes skin pigmentation. Dogs generally also experience symptoms such as depression, lethargy, inactivity, large amounts of hair loss all over the body, sensitivity to cold, and weight gain. If your dog is found to have the above symptoms, it is recommended to check the dog's thyroid hormone level. If the thyroid hormone level is insufficient, it is recommended to supplement the dog's thyroid hormone.
